Maths: what does = mean?

On Friday we thought about the = sign. Sophie explained to us that that sign means equal or the same. It is a bit like a scale. What is before the sign must be the same after the sign. A lot of children thought you can only have one number on the right hand side. There isn’t just one way to make a number sentence. We all had a go making interesting number sentences making sure that both sides of the equal sign were of the same value.
