Mr Watt wrote to us to ask for more help with measuring. He knew what he had to measure but he wasn’t so sure how to do it.
We discussed the equipment and chose the equipment that is used for measuring length. We talked about the other equipment and what that measures. You measure length in centimetres, metres and millimetres. You write cm, m or mm.
Rachel showed us how to use decimal points when the thing you are measuring isn’t a whole number.
We looked at how Mr Watt did his measuring. Mr Watt, you are doing it very wrong but the last picture is right. You must measure straight and start from the zero!
We all had a go at using the different types of measuring equipment. There are so many different types because you measure different things. A ruler is good for small things, a meter stick is good for slightly larger things, a tape measure is good for measuring around things or longer distances but a hodometer is perfect for long distances.
