Today Rachel showed us in the newspaper how some paintings were stolen. Some of thought that the paintings were very simple but other children thought it would be hard to paint the circles so perfectly.
Rachel asked us to count the dots. Some of us counted in 1’s or 2’s. then we discovered that there were 6 in a row. The sum was 6+6+6+6+6+6+6+6= ? This is called repeated addition. We then looked at the bigger painting. The repeated addition was so long! Rachel showed us how we can use the multiplication sign to make it quicker. It means times or groups of and the sign looks like this: x
We found some arrays around the class.
We spend the rest of the day making arrays and finding the matching multiplication sums. Some of us made pictures like Damien Hirst.
